We are Growing!
C4C has recently joined with Technology As Needed. With their help and expertise, we will be able to impact more lives and keep more devices out of landfills and in working condition!
So, without further ado, meet (left to right) Bill, Joe, and Rich.
So, without further ado, meet (left to right) Bill, Joe, and Rich.
After retiring, they “banded together as three geezers” to take apart computers and repair them as a hobby. Why? Because they saw a need and figured as a surgeon, construction company executive, and computer scientist, they could meet it.
What started as a few repairs in 2010 has turned into 6,282 computers repurposed and given away. Just three retired men manually processed over 6,000 computers. Incredible! And the people they’ve been able to give them away to is even more incredible.
From Poland, to Guatemala, to running a hospital in Cuba, to an organization that plants libraries, to schools in Africa, to veterans groups, and to Afghan refugees. The list goes on! These computers have touched lives worldwide.
Even as devices become more complicated, the three of them continually adapt. They are now working on tablets, touchscreens, Chromebooks, etc. Rich stated, “YouTube is our friend. We use that a lot to learn how to work on new things.”
These three jokesters filled our interview with joy and laughter. “Wow, you’re going to make us famous. Make us look like rock stars,” they joked. But I don’t think that’s too hard, considering the work they’ve done and the lives they’ve changed in just 12 years.
Through our partnership, we will take the 5% of laptops they can’t repurpose and 100% of the e-waste they couldn’t collect and properly recycle them all. They in turn will repurpose laptops we would typically have to recycle. A synergetic flow that we couldn’t be more excited about! What is better than changing lives and saving the earth- Changing lives and saving the earth together!
Welcome to the team, “geezers!”
